A economia demográfica ou economia populacional é a aplicação da economia à demografia, o estudo das populações humanas, incluindo seu tamanho, crescimento, densidade, distribuição e estatísticas vitais.[1] A análise inclui determinantes econômicas e as consequências do casamento e taxa de fecundidade,[2] a família,[3] divórcio,[4] doença[5] e expectativa de vida ao nascer/mortalidade,[6] razão de dependência,[7] migração,[8] crescimento populacional,[9] tamanho da população,[10] políticas públicas,[11] e a transição demográfica da "superpopulação" para a estabilidade (dinâmica)[12] ou declínio.[13]

Outros subcampos incluem a medida do custo de vida[14] e a economia dos idosos,[15] deficientes[16] e de gêneros,[17] raça, minorias e discriminação.[18] No geral e nos subcampos, ela complementa a economia do trabalho[19] e implica uma variedade de outros campos econômicos.[20]
