A câmara baixa do Oireachtas (Parlamento irlandês), o Dáil Éireann, contém atualmente 166 Teachtaí Dala (TDs), que representam 43 círculos parlamentares em toda a República da Irlanda. Dependendo do seu tamanho, cada círculo deve ter pelo menos 3 membros. Não há limite quanto ao número de membros eleitos, no entanto, nas últimas eleições o eleitorado tem 3, 4 ou 5 representantes eleitos. A atual (Censos 2006)1 proporção indica que há um TD para cada 25.512 pessoas. As eleições são realizadas utilizando o voto único transferível, forma de representação proporcional.
