o escorbuto era uma doença causada por falta de vitamina c q era essencial para a saude desses marinheiro!!

 os primeiros sintomas era sangramento nas gengivas
isso começou a afetar esses homens q eram navegadore !!
isso era cusado porque nunca em um navio em   quase 1 a 2 meses dentro de um barco eles ficavam sem comida ou seja ficavam sem os nutrientes q eles precisavam

Com o desenvolvimento científico, cientistas viram que a ingestão de suco de limão e repolho azedo diminuia os índices de escorbuto entre os marinheiros, e mas tarde descubriram que estes alimentos eram ricos em vitamina C.

I tried to correct a misconception regarding the first attempts to cure scurvy on sailing ships. It was generally believed that the English were the first to realize the benefit of the fresh fruits and vegetables on sailors afflicted with scurvy, probably because the later English expeditions are better documented, but also because the editors of the English pages are more familiar with English sources.

However, it is documented that the Portuguese traded for citruses or other fruits during the discovery voyages in this regard. The few references I could find (and added on English wiki page) are indirect and fragmentary.

It would be great if you can help me to correct this with any quotable source regarding how the Portuguese sailors dealt with scurvy during their first voyages. (Unfortunately I cannot write in Portuguese but I have a basic understanding, so you can reply this way.)

I updated the English page Scurvy with the information about the Portuguese navigators being the first to successfully cure scurvy.

It would be great if someone could update the Portuguese page too.
