The Inklings

The Inklings foi um grupo informal de discussão sobre literatura associado à Universidade de Oxford, na Inglaterra. O grupo era formado por uma maioria de acadêmicos da Universidade, que incluía J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Owen Barfield, Charles Williams, Adam Fox, Hugo Dyson, Robert Havard, Nevill Coghill, Charles Leslie Wrenn, Roger Lancelyn Green, Colin Hardie, James Dundas-Grant, John Wain, R. B. McCallum, Gervase Mathew, C. E. Stevens, J. A. W. Bennett, Lord David Cecil, Christopher Tolkien (filho de Tolkien) e Warren "Warnie" Lewis (irmão mais velho de C. S. Lewis).
O grupo reuniu-se entre 1930 e 1949 aproximadamente.[1] As reuniões eram costumeiramente às terças-feiras, nas dependências de Lewis, no Magdalene College, de Oxford. Igualmente frequentes eram as reuniões de quinta-feira em um bar local, o The Eagle and Child também conhecido na comunidade de Oxford como The Bird and Baby, ou simplesmente The Bird.[2]
Os Inklings prezavam o valor da narrativa na ficção e encorajavam a fantasia. A despeito da ênfase em valores cristãos, o grupo incluía ateus, antroposofistas e participantes das mais variadas instituições religiosas.
