Roy Claxton Acuff (15 de setembro de 1903 - 23 de novembro de 1992) foi um cantor, violinista de música country americano.[1]
Iniciou sua carreira na década de 1930 e ganhou fama regional como cantor e violinista de seu grupo, os Smoky Mountain Boys, se juntou a banda Grand Ole Opry em 1938 e, embora sua popularidade como músico tenha diminuído no final da década de 1940, ele permaneceu uma das principais figuras e promotores do Opry por quase quatro décadas. Em 1942, Acuff e Fred Rose fundaram a Acuff-Rose Music, a primeira grande editora de música country com sede em Nashville, que contratou artistas como Hank Williams, Roy Orbison e Everly Brothers . Em 1962, Acuff se tornou o primeiro membro vivo do Country Music Hall of Fame .[2]
Morte[editar | editar código-fonte]
Roy Acuff morreu no Hospital Batista em Nashville em 23 de novembro de 1992 de insuficiência cardíaca congestiva aos 89 anos.[3] Ele está enterrado na seção Hillcrest (sepultura 6, lote 9) do Cemitério Spring Hill na Gallatin Road em Nashville.[4]
