Hi, I am w:nl:gebruiker:Walter of the dutch Wikipedia. I am writing you because your are listed as ambassador of your wiki. I have something to say that I think you will find useful and possibly others of your wiki also.

You know it is not easy for the members of a local wiki to be informed about what is going on in the higher levels of the Wikimedia family. This because of the language problem and the high level of fragmentation of places where you can find information.

I am now making a weekly news letter (Wikizine) that attempts to provide the news of the Wikimedia projects. The concept is to list only a very short description of the news an give the relevant url to the subject. I want it to be short, only give the news that is important for all projects. The target audience include the ambassadors. It is for people who are interested in what it going on outside there own wiki. I emphasize on the news that is practical-technical. The information comes form several "news"-pages on several wikis, the mailinglists and IRC. There will be news I can not discover. If you have news found somewhere or from you own wiki please let my know. wikizine AT wikipedia.be

I can only create one version in something that supposed to be English. I count on the readers to inform there local wiki about the news in there own language.

Wikizine is send by use of the mailinglist Announce-l. It is only used for this. So people can subscribe without being swamped by emails like the lists.

Seria uma sugestão que teria que ser levada até os caras da Wiki Foundation. Eu só queria sugerir que eles solicitassem às editoras de banda desenhada uma quantidade de imagens enxuta para por sob GFDL. Eu sei que soa infantil (até pra mim!) mas seria bem menos problemático pra eles do que pra nós diretamente. Afinal, não adianta a gente se apresentar como membro da wikipédia, por que qualquer um pode ser membro. Não é garantia de nada. Mykola Havrylovych Shmatko (Ukrainian: Микола Гаврилович Шматько) is a contemporary Ukrainian sculptor, professor and painter. Mykola Shmatko was born on 17th of August 1943 in Donetsk region, Ukraine.[1] He became a sculptor at the age of 33. The European culture and art inspired the creative potential that he incarnates in the marble. He has created the author’s art gallery of sculpture and painting - "Shmatko & Sons" [2]. This gallery represents 100 sculptures, more than 70 of which are made of Ural and Italian marble, 30 plaster casts and about 300 pictures (paintings, graphics, and architectural projects). Around 750 monuments starting from simple decoration to bas-relief, high relief, busts and sculptures. In 2000 he was appointed as a professor of Arts department by Moscow Institute of World Civilization to honor his contribution to art and culture.[3] In 2004 for his work of "Sviatohorska Blessed Virgin" - statue of the Theotokos "Hegumenia" for Sviato-Uspenskyi Sviatohorskyi Monastery, he was awarded the order of Nestor Letopisets by Volodymyr Sabodan, the Kyiv Metropolitan and all Ukraine.[4]

Idh0854: It depends on the language. The Japanese Wikipedia uses "Sea of Japan" and the Korean uses "East Sea" - Those two are straightforward. However the English Wikipedia decided that "Sea of Japan" is more commonplace than "East Sea," so Sea of Japan is used instead of East Sea. It's very likely that in Spanish "Mar do Japão" is the more common name, and it would be neutral and acceptable to do so. I cannot read the article as it is in Korean. However,
I would wait until the United Nations actually does change its legislation and/or English (or other 3rd party) language usage changes. Until then we just have to wait. Many of those debates have been done and done over and done again. It helps to read archives of debates so you can see what arguments have been tried already and which ones have not. Then if you want to make a new point, you know what you can take into consideration.
A plan may be proposed in 2011 to change things, but it is not guaranteed to work.

A question about Eliminadores

Hello, I am a ruwiki user. As I see ptwiki has implemented a technical flag "Eliminadores" for deleting pages as a part of sysop privileges. Ruwiki has a simular flag, but it is rather abstract (it works through setting a special template to a page with subsequent deleting such pages by bot) then technical but now we are thinking about implementing it completly. Eliminators are allowed to:

  1. Have one's own edits automatically marked as patrolled (autopatrol)
  2. Search deleted pages (browsearchive)
  3. Delete pages (delete)
  4. Mass delete pages (nuke)
  5. Undelete a page (undelete)
  6. View deleted history entries, without their associated text (deletedhistory)
  7. View deleted text and changes between deleted revisions (deletedtext)

According to MediaWiki config, the eliminator's user rights management is restricted to bureaucrats, which can grant or revoke their privileges:

Hello! I am en:Shivashree from India. I have been working on a project to translate the article en:Deekshabhoomi in major languages of the world.

Deekshabhoomi is a historical place in India where about 380,000 depressed class people converted to Buddhism on October 14, 1956 along with their leader Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. There is 55th anniversary of the event in the next month. We are trying to translate this article in major world languages by the time of this occasion. This article has already been a DYK article on English Wikipedia. It has been translated in Japanese through this project. Thai translation is being done. Urdu stub has been created. I would appreciate if someone of you can translate it to Portuguese.

Foundation Images Policy

I am Yosri from Malay Wikipedia. Recently I was informed by certain parties that MS Wiki need to delete any images tagged as Non-Commercial under Foundation Licensing policy. After I have done some studies, I realised that Wikipedia Foundations is moving towards allowing commercialises all images, as such they are acting on behalf of commercial company to require all images loaded with tagging Non-Commercial in all Wiki Project to be removed, including those loaded in local Wiki. You are only allowed to licenses your images under "free content", which specifically allows commercial reuse, example GDLF 1.2. Certain images is exempted under a very narrow EDP ("exemption doctrine policy") definition. If you all already aware about this, please ignore this comment. Please consider to run such a bot somewhat less eagerly. It is not uncommon for a Commons admin to replace images individually in dependence of the context without automatization to minimize the disruption caused by a necessary deletion. Hola, soy miembro del partido UPyD. Sfs90 es un trol que no está interesado en que haya un consenso ni en beneficiar a esta enciclopedia. Lo único que quiere es poner nombres incorrectos como Progress and Democracy Union o Union for Progress and Democracy en la Wikipedia inglesa para crear confusiones y errores de traducción. Sfs90 no acepta la evidencia de que "Unión" en el nombre del partido hace referencia a la defensa del partido de "la unidad de España" como ya han explicado dos miembros del partido y que por tanto no puede ser una "unión" del "progreso y la democracia" como intenta hacernos creer basándose en su equivocada interpretación personal. Él intenta aprovecharse de que el partido en muchas ocasiones no ha puesto la coma, pero es simplemente una cuestión de estilización, el nombre más correcto, sobre todo para una enciclopedia, es Unión, Progreso y Democracia (União, Progresso e Democracia), el partido ha usado también este nombre más correcto como en esta sede. Vengo del artículo enlazado en wikipedia en español, donde encontré relativamente muy poca información sobre el Centro Histórico de Cuenca, con errores de redacción, y más que nada, con contenido que no compete al título en cuestión. Al revisar el artículo del que fue traducido aquí en la wikipedia en portugués, me fijé en que es más extenso, y contenía más fuentes que respaldan el asunto, pero mi sorpresa es ver que el artículo no habla del sitio llamado "Centro Histórico", si no de la ciudad en general. Debo destacar que no he profundizado en la lectura del texto, puesto que no comprendo 100% el portugués, la facilidad del idioma me permitió ver que hay cosas que no deberían ir en el artículo. Quisiera saber si alguien está dispuesto a mejorar el artículo, mientras hago lo mismo con el que está en español, para compartir así mismo fuentes e información sobre el artículo.

Tibetan flag should be swapped for a Tibetan landscape in the Portal:Tibete

At Portal:Tibete in the lead, the Tibetan separatist/independence flag, which is banned in Mainland China, is being used here. Wikipedia is supposed to be politically neutral and using the flag could be seen as taking a political stance (much like the use of the Vietnamese flag in relation to overseas Vietnamese). I think the File:Potala palace24.jpg (which is used in en:Template:WikiProject Tibet) is far more suitable as there are no political undertones here.

The portal should be able to have "Tibetan separatism" as a featured topic/article and in that case the flag ought to be able to be displayed there. It's just that the flag doesn't belong in the header. Wikipedia shouldn't be seen as endorsing the political movement.

I opened a meta discussion about the issue at meta:Wikimedia_Forum#Unnecessary_uses_of_separatist_flags

The Tibetan flag should be mentioned in articles about separatism and sections about separatism and/or the historical use of the flag (before it became known as a separatist flag), but it should not be used unnecessarily. WhisperToMe (discussão) 23h19min de 12 de abril de 2016 (UTC)[responder]

Actually, only the symbol of Tibet is a separated symbol, we'd better not use it. But the flag? it's just a history flag of Tibet used from 1912 to 1951, the photo can prove it. Seperate flag? The Chinese Wikipedia says that only Chinese government think it's a separate flag; 14th Dalai Lama says it's a only autonomous flag. ([9][10][11]).
Wikipedia is not censored. wikipedia is not a website in Red China, so it's no need to obey laws in China, just obey law in Florida is enough. if you insist that the so-called "seperate flag" is not suitable, this flag is okay, because it's the flag used during Songtsen Gampo's reign.
It had a historic purpose, but that it's become is a symbol of Tibetan independence/separatism. Wikipedia shouldn't be seen as endorsing it.
It's okay to display that flag in articles about the flag itself, or in articles about Tibetan separatism. But it shouldn't be displayed in a manner that suggests that the project endorses the political cause.

I was curious about something: Is there an automatic text replacement bot in the Portuguese Wikipedia?

In the Hebrew Wikipedia there is a list of several hundreds of common errors in Hebrew language spelling and in wiki syntax, which are regularly corrected by a bot. Is there anything like that in Portuguese?

My bot account is blocked

Hello. I'm IRTC1015 from Korean Wikipedia. I usually edit kowiki, and have a bot there, Metrobot, which has been approved. I accidently discovered that my bot account has been blocked indefinitely because of "Inappropriate username" in ptwiki by request. If my bot accidently access to ptwiki, the autoblock would work, and that would get my IP blocked in ptwiki. I recognize that ptwiki doesn't allow that accounts without bot approval to use names with "bot", but it still doesn't make sence for me that accidently auto-created account which has no edit should be blocked.
