Robert MacBryde (Maybole, 5 de dezembro de 1913 – Dublim, 6 de maio de 1966) foi um pintor e cenógrafo escocês.
Biografia[editar | editar código-fonte]
Robert MacBryde nasceu em Maybole, Ayrshire, em 5 de dezembro de 1913.[1] Trabalhou em uma fábrica, depois de abandonar a escola e antes de ingressar na Escola de Arte de Glasgow,[2] onde conheceu Robert Colquhoun,[3] com quem estabeleceu uma relação homosexual e artística.[4] Os dois Roberts, como ficaram conhecidos, se formaram em 1938.[5]
Em 1939, mudou-se para Londres, onde, dois anos depois, abriu um estúdio com MacBryde. Os dois dividiram uma casa com John Minton e Jankel Adler.[6] Realizou sua primeira exposição individual na Lefevre Gallery, Londres, em 1943.[6]
Após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, Colquhoun e MacBryde também produziram juntos uma série de cenografias teatrais, incluindo Macbeth de John Gielgud e Scottish ballet Donald de Léonide Massine.[6] Faleceu na cidade de Dublim em 6 de maio de 1966.[6]

Robert McBride (the change to MacBryde came after he had left art school) was almost exactly a year older than Colquhoun. He was born in Maybole on the 5 December 1913 at 60

Worked in a factory before entering Glasgow School of Art in 1932 where he met his companion and collaborator, Robert Colquhoun. They travelled in Italy 1937-9 before returning to Scotland. From 1947 they made lithographs and drawings for Miller's Press in Lewes. Their commissions for the stage included Massine's ballet Donald of the Burthens. Died Dublin.

The two Roberts', as they were known, graduated in 1938 and spent that summer at Hospitalfield House where James Cowie was warden. Travelling scholarships enabled them to study in France and Italy. On their return to Scotland Colquhoun trained as a teacher and in 1940 he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in Edinburgh. He was invalided out the following year, after which the Roberts moved to London.
