The JF EOD group today carried out a controlled explosion of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) to the north of Lashkar Gar. The EOD team which is made up of Royal Engineers from 33 EOD Regt in Cambridgeshire, disposed of a 270kgs of UXO's, most of which had been handed in by the local population of Lashkar Gar. Over 300 mortars, 1000 rounds of ammunition, anti tank mines and rocket-propelled grenades were destroyed in explosion.
This image was taken during Op Herrick IV, the UK's deployment into Helmand Province of Southern Afghanistan. Op Herrick IV saw the development of the Helmand Task Force in the province, which saw the cross Governmental Provincial Reconstruction Team set up in Lashkar Gar, to help the Afghan Government build strong governmental institutions, security and create jobs.
The Task Force was made up of 3300 troops from the British Military, with the majority being taken from 16 Air Assault Brigade.
