A Pocketful of Love is the debut by American singer-songwriter by Aalisha O'Sullivan. It was released on June 19, 2012 through Columbia Records. In February 2011, O'Sullivan alongside his longtime friend Benny Blanco, decided to record a demo album with nine tracks and send to Columbia Records. A week later, record executive Rob Stringer contacted her, prompting her to sign a three-album deal contract. As executive producer Benny Blanco, alongside Jeff Bhasker, Tim Mitchell, Greg Wells, Spike Stent and Jimmy Harry produced the album between March 2011 to May 2012. O'Sullivan co-written most of the songs from the album, it's lyrics explores themes about romantic relationships, love issues, among other subjects. The album's title and title track song was inspired by Elizabeth Trott 2009s book that same name.
The album received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who complimented its production, O'Sullivan's voice and ability to compose. The album reached number one on the U.S Billboard 200, highest sales week on the week ending October 20, 2012 with 389,000 copies sold, and later became the third best-selling album of 2012, selling over 2.1 million copies within year, and was later certified eight-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales exceeding 8 million units, becoming fourth best-selling digital album of all time. Outside United States, the album reached numeber one in more than ten countries, incluiding Australia, Canada, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, making it the ninth best-selling album of the 2010s, also reached top three in several countries around the world, receiving more than twenty-five platinum certificates. At 55th Annual Grammy Awards, O'Sullivan win Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist, also was nomitated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Short Form Music Video, becoming the artist most nominated by her debut album. To the date the album has sold more than 16 million copies worlwide.
Five singles were released from the album, "Odds Are Against Us" peaked number three on the U.S Billboard Hot 100, and topped Canadian Hot 100, "Soldier Boy" peaked number one in nine countries, becoming her first Hot 100 number one, making it the best-selling single of the year, with over 9.1 million in sales. Followed by "title track" peaking number two in the United States, and topped in five coutries. While "Forever Yours" and "By My Side" reached top five some countries worldwide. All the singles on the album were certified multi-platinum by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), being "Soldier Boy" certified Diamond. She promoted the album through television programs, later with her debut cocnert tour A Pocketful of Love Tour in 2012 and 2013.
