Thatcheria é um gênero de moluscos gastrópodes pertencentes à família Raphitomidae[1] (no século XX classificados entre os Turridae, ou Thatcheriidae).[2] Foi nomeado em 1877, por George French Angas, no texto "Descriptions of a new genus of gasteropodous Mollusca from Japan, and of a new species of Bullia from Kurachi" (publicado no Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London; páginas 529–530),[1] após a descoberta da espécie Thatcheria mirabilis, por Charles Thatcher, em águas do Japão,[3] no oeste do oceano Pacífico, seu principal habitat até as Filipinas.[2] Na primeira metade do século XXI a espécie Thatcheria janae é descrita através de espécimes da Austrália Ocidental, no oceano Índico.[4] As outras cinco espécies deste gênero estão extintas (†) e foram apenas coletadas como fósseis: Thatcheria waitaraensis (Marwick, 1926), Thatcheria carinata (K. Martin, 1933), Thatcheria liratula (Powell, 1942), Thatcheria pagodula (Powell, 1942) e Thatcheria vitiensis (Charig, 1963).[5]
