Knowledge includes, but is not limited to, those descriptions, hypotheses, concepts, theories, principles and procedures which are either true or useful. The study of knowledge is called epistemology.

Knowledge can be distinguished from mere information because it is associated with an intentionality. Both knowledge and information consist of true statements. But knowledge can be considered as information that has a purpose or use.

A common defintion of knowledge is that it consists of justified true belief.
