Alessandra Orofino is a Brazilian activist, writer, director and producer. She is currently the Executive Director at NOSSAS, one of Brazil’s most important nonprofits. She is also the showrunner of Greg News, a weekly satirical show starring Gregorio Duvivier on HBO Latin America.

Alessandra was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She studied Political Science at Sciences Po Paris and Economics and Human Rights at Columbia University.

In 2009, she was a founding team member at Purpose, a NYC-based agency founded by Jeremy Heimans. She started the company’s office in Brazil shortly after.
In 2011, at age 22, Alessandra co-founded Meu Rio, a multi-cause activist community based in Rio de Janeiro. The project quickly grew and became NOSSAS.
In 2015, she started AQESE, a blog focused on gender inequality at Folha de S. Paulo, Brazil’s largest newspaper, and wrote a column for the print version of the same publication.
In 2016, she created Greg News in partnership with Gregorio Duvivier, now on its fifth season on HBO.
In 2020, she started a collaboration with Academy-Award nominated documentary filmmaker Petra Costa.

Alessandra has spoken at the TEDGlobal stage and her work has been published at Folha de S. Paulo, Revista Piauí, Stanford Review for Social Innovation, Forbes and The New York Times. In 2014, NOSSAS won the Google Prize for Social Innovation. In 2019, Alessandra was selected as a fellow for the Obama Foundation.
