New Beta Feature next week (10out2020)

The Editing team is working on mw:Talk pages project/replying. The Reply tool is one result of the big mw:Talk pages consultation 2019. Editing is planning to offer the Reply tool to your community as a Beta Feature soon, probably on Wednesday, 14 October. The Reply tool has been used to make more than 25,000 comments at about 20 wikis so far. Your Wikipedia was chosen for the next group because you are already working with the Growth team on ways to support new editors. We think this will make it easier for new editors to reply to messages you post for them. It was also chosen because you participated in the Talk pages consultation 2019 as part of the Iberocoop group.
Here's what you need to know:
- Using the Reply tool is optional. The Beta Feature will be turned off. If you want to try it, you will need to go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures and turn it on next Wednesday (or maybe Thursday).
- There are a few things that you might want to check.
- Check mw:Help:DiscussionTools/Why can't I reply to this comment? for information about "unsigned" templates and other information.
- Some languages use a particular style for signatures. For example, Japanese does not add a space between the comment and the signature. I don't think that's the case here, but if I've guessed wrong, then you can define the signature format for all users at MediaWiki:Discussiontools-signature-prefix.
- Missing or wrong translations can be fixed at Translatewiki.net.
- If you have questions or encounter problems, please leave a note at mw:Talk:Talk pages project/replying. That's the fastest way to reach the devs.

- It's similar to Enterprisey's reply-links (translated here by Bageense). I've been very happy with it. They're planning a test to see whether it helps new editors in particular. - Whatamidoing (WMF), I reply more now, since it's easier to reply using that script. Sometimes, the work of editing the source code, searching for the specific message that I want to reply to, comparing the code with the page before editing, and using "show preview" makes me think it's not worth the trouble to reply to some message, and then, I leave it unreplied. Like, possibly I would not give you this answer here because the Bageense script does not work on the Wikipedia domain, for some reason... So "laziness" could possibly win... I have more important things to do with my time, and replying to messages that way I described (that is, without the script assistance) isn't easy, isn't quick, and isn't fun... - The Editing team's Reply tool has a "visual" mode that lets you search for pages you want to link. This means no more wondering exactly how to spell the page and getting redlinks if you make a typo. You can also type @ and it pops up a list of editors to ping: @MisterSanderson, for example, and I didn't have to type any of your name.
