Charles Goodwin (1943 – 31 de março de 2018) foi um linguista estadunidense. Professor da Universidade da Califórnia em Los Angeles (UCLA) e membro-chave do Centro de Linguagem, Interação e Cultura, ele contribuiu com teorias e pesquisas inovadoras sobre interação social e abriu novos caminhos para pesquisas sobre olhar, narrativa, troca de turnos e ação.

Carreira

Goodwin trabalhou na área de bem-estar social antes de ingressar na academia. Ele era assistente social do Departamento de Bem-Estar da cidade de Nova Iorque e cineasta do Centro de Desenvolvimento para Crianças Autistas na Filadélfia e da Clínica de Orientação Infantil da Filadélfia.

Depois de se formar em inglês pela Holy Cross e se formar em direito pela Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Nova Iorque, Charles Goodwin obteve seu doutorado em linguística em 1977 pela Escola de Pós-Graduação em Artes e Ciências da Universidade da Pensilvânia. Seu perfil na UCLA lista seus interesses em "ação humana, análise de vídeo de fala corporificada em interação, cognição distribuída, afasia no discurso, gesto e etnografia da ciência."
