Newton Cannito

Newton Cannito is a Brazilian filmmaker, screenwriter and writer[1].

Doctorate in Film and TV from the University of São Paulo, he was one of the creators and head writer of the series 9mm: São Paulo, aired by Fox Brasil. The series won the APCA award for best teledramaturgy program of Brazilian TV.

He also wrote the screenplays for the telenovela Parallel Power, by Lauro César Muniz, for the series City of Men, for the films How much is it worth or is it per kilo? by Sergio Bianchi, Bróder, by Jeferson De, and The Mystery of the Sintra Road, by Jorge Paixão da Costa , for Reza a Lenda by Homero Olivetto, creator and screenwriter of the series Basic Unit that won the ABRA award for best script of a 30 min series in 2017.

At Rede Globo he collaborated on the soap opera Joia Rara

As a director, he signed the documentaries Violência SA , Jesus in Wonderland and the feature film Magal and the Ants released by Globofilmes in 2016

In 2010 he took over the command of the Audiovisual Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture[2]. He remained in office until 2012, when he was replaced by Ana Paula Santana. Throughout his management, he advocated the diversification of Brazilian audiovisual production and the exploration of digital production and distribution technologies and the adoption of transmedia strategies[3].

In 2014- International Emmy Award for collaboration in the soap opera Joia Rara (Rede Globo) 2017 - Winner of the ABRA award for best 30min series script for the Basic Unit Series(universal Channel).

2018 is the creator of the 26-episode series Z4, a partnership between SBT and Disney Channel

He also acted as playwright for businessman Antônio Ermírio de Moraes, in the writing of the play " Acorda Brasil". He made the film "The Life of Leon Feffer" at the family's request as a posthumous tribute to the patriarch of the family that created the Suzano Paper company. His most recent work was the film biography of Silvio Santos, which will be played by Rodrigo Faro and will be released soon.

As a natural evolution of his experiences as a creator and thinker of narrative, Cannito created the method "Storytelling and Self-Knowledge:

"Your Life is a Movie". It is a method of autobiographical reflection, focused on self-knowledge and personal development, which uses storytelling techniques to help participants renew the way they perceive their own lives and discover their purpose.

He also promotes Personal Storytelling Mentoring, where he uses storytelling techniques to help professionals create their Personal Brand, preparing the mentee for lectures and interviews, and helping them gain a greater audience and authority on social networks.

Passionate about Brazil and our culture, Cannito also created the Movimento Utopia Brasil, which seeks to investigate our national identity and stimulate the creation of new artistic works that dialogue with and renew our traditions.
