Charlize Theron é uma atriz e produtora cinematográfica estadunidense de origem sul-africana cujo primeiro trabalho em cinema foi um papel não-creditado no filme de terror Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995).[1][2] Em seguida, Theron assumiu pequenos papéis em outras produções, interpretando uma assassina em 2 Days in the Valley,[3] uma garçonete na comédia romântica Trial and Error (1997)[4] e uma esquizofrênica no suspense The Devil's Advocate (1997). Neste último, dividiu as telas com Keanu Reeves e Al Pacino. Em 1999, atuou no suspense de ficção científica The Astronaut's Wife e no drama The Cider House Rules. Por sua atuação como a assassina em série Aileen Wuornos em Monster (2003), Theron recebeu o Óscar de Melhor Atriz e o Globo de Ouro de Melhor Atriz em Filme - Drama, dentre diversos outros prêmios.[5][6][7] No ano seguinte, interpretou a artista sueca Britt Ekland no filme biográfico televisivo The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, que recebeu críticas positivas pela imprensa especializada.

Em 2005, Theron interpretou uma assassina rebelde na ficção científica Æon Flux[8] e uma mineira lutando contra assédio sexual no drama North Country, pelo qual foi indicada ao Óscar de Melhor Atriz e ao Globo de Ouro de Melhor Atriz em Cinema.[9][10][11] Três anos mais tarde, Theron dividiu as telas com Will Smith na comédia de ação Hancock.[12] O filme arrecadou mais de 624 milhões de dólares em bilheterias mundiais, tornando-se um sucesso comercial e de crítica.[13] Em 2011, estrelou a comédia dramática Young Adult, filme pelo qual foi indicada ao Globo de Ouro de Melhor Atriz em Filme de Comédia.[14][15] No ano seguinte, Theron interpretou a antagonista principal no filme de aventura Snow White and the Huntsman, contracenando com Kristen Stewart e Chris Hemsworth sob a direção de Rupert Sanders. No mesmo ano, co-estrelou a aclamada ficção científica Prometheus juntamente com Noomi Rapace e Michael Fassbender. Em 2015, Theron viveu a rebelde Imperatriz Furiosa em Mad Max: Estrada da Fúria, o quarto título da consagrada franquia de ação Mad Max.[16] Dois anos mais tarde, em 2017, viveu a antagonista principal no filme de ação The Fate of the Furious, o oitavo filme da franquia The Fast and the Furious[17] e que arrecadou mais de 1 bilhão de dólares em bilheterias mundiais, tornando-se o maior sucesso comercial do primeiro semestre de 2017.[18][19]
