James L. Avery (Atlantic City, Nova Jérsey, EUA, em 27 de Novembro de 1948), é um ator e dublador norte-americano. Seu papel mais notavel foi o de "Phillip Banks", também chamado de "Tio Phill", no seriado The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Antes da fama [editar]
Avery alistou-se nas Forças Armadas dos Estados Unidos logo após a sua graduação na escola, e atuou na Guerra do Vietnã entre 1968 a 1969. Depois que deixou as Forças Armadas, Avery mudou-se para San Diego, onde começou a escrever poesias e scripts para TV. Ele ganhou um prêmio Emmy por sua produção durante o seu mandato no STF e foi concedida uma bolsa da Universidade da Califórnia, em San Diego. Avery ganhou o curso de bacharel em cinema e literatura na universidade, e formou-se em 1976.
Carreira [editar]
Avery fez a voz de muitos personagens em séries como "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" de 1987, e "Iron Man" em 1990.
Casou-se em 1988 com Barbara Avery.
Em 1990 começou a fazer o seriado "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". O seriado, estrelado por Will Smith, e que ficaria no ar até 1996, deu a James Avery seu papel mais conhecido, o de advogado, e posteriormente juiz, "Phillip Banks".
Atuou em vários filmes e séries da TV americana. Em 2000 fez um dos episódios da série policial "CSI".
Entre 2003 e 2004, apareceu em episódios dos seriados "Crossing Jordan", "All about the Andersons" e "All of Us".
Em 2005, apareceu em um episódio dos seriados "My wife and Kids" (conhecido no Brasil como "Eu a Patroa e as crianças"),"That's So Raven" (conhecido no Brasil como "As Visões da Raven") e "All of us" (conhecido no Brasil como "Elas e Eu").[carece de fontes]
