Música renascentista refere-se à música europeia escrita durante a renascença ou seja, no período que abrangeu, aproximadamente, os anos de 1400 dC a 1600 dC. A definição do início do período renascentista é difícil devido à falta de mudanças abruptas no pensamento musical do século XV. Adicionalmente, o processo pelo qual a música adquiriu características renascentistas foi gradual, não havendo um consenso entre os musicólogos, que têm demarcado seu começo tão cedo quanto 1300 dC até tão tarde quanto 1470 dC. A pesquisa musicológica recente, entretanto, sugere que o conceito de início, de um modo geral, deve ser evitado, devido às dificuldades extremas ao definir o significado e a demarcação da época para o termo. Entretanto, é seguro se afirmar que o movimento humanista italiano revelando e divulgando a estética das antigas Roma e Grécia, contribuiu, num nível conceitual, para uma revalidação acelerada da música, mas sua influência direta sobre a teoria musical, composição e interpretação é apenas sugestiva.
