Bohemian Club

O Bohemian Club é um clube de cavalheiros proeminentes privado em São Francisco, Califórnia, Estados Unidos.

A coruja empoleirada mascote do clube colocado em uma alvenaria acima da entrada principal do 624 Taylor. A coruja é ladeada pelas letras B e C e rodeadas pelas palavras do lema do clube.

O clube está localizado na Taylor Street 624, em São Francisco. Fundado em 1872 a partir de uma reunião regular de jornalistas, artistas e músicos, logo começou a aceitar os empresários e empreendedores como membros permanentes, bem como oferecendo uma adesão temporária a presidentes de universidades e comandantes militares que estavam servindo na Área da baía de São Francisco.

Um clube de pessoas influentes da elite, que representam cerca de 2.000 membros (todos homens, a maioria norte-americanos, que representam um quarto da riqueza privada total nos Estados Unidos, mas também alguns europeus e asiáticos), que se reúnem todos os anos durante as duas últimas semanas de Julho, no Bohemian Grove.

Atualmente, o clube tem uma composição diversificada de muitos líderes locais e globais proeminentes, desde artistas e músicos a empresários de liderança.

Lista de membros

A lista de membros do Bohemian Club inclui membros notáveis, tanto antigos quanto atuais. A admissão no Bohemian Club, assume diversas formas, sendo oferecida regularmente a novos reitores de universidades e a comandantes militares situados na região da Baía de São Francisco. Os membros efetivos são geralmente homens ricos e influentes que pagam a anuidade integral e que, muitas vezes, precisam esperar 15 anos por uma vaga, já que o clube limita seu número de membros a cerca de 2.700 homens. Os membros associados são artistas gráficos, músicos e atores, que pagam taxas menores devido à sua contribuição menor para as atividades do clube em São Francisco e no Bohemian Grove. Os membros profissionais são membros associados que possuem condições de pagar a anuidade integral ou são profissionais qualificados selecionados da comunidade artística.

Os membros honorários são eleitos pelos membros do clube e não pagam taxas de adesão nem quotas anuais. Quatro mulheres foram nomeadas membros honorários nas duas primeiras décadas do clube, embora não lhes tenham sido concedidos todos os privilégios dos membros regulares.[1] Vários membros honorários nunca usufruíram das ofertas do clube — não há registo de Mark Twain ter visitado o clube, e o residente de Boston, Oliver Wendell Holmes, nunca o visitou, mas respondeu imediatamente com um poema quando foi notificado por telegrama de honra, apesar de ter sido acordado à meia-noite.[2]

Cada membro está associado a um "acampamento", isto é, um dos 118 alojamentos rústicos para dormir e lazer espalhados pelo Bohemian Grove, onde cada membro dorme durante as duas semanas (três fins de semana) do acampamento anual de verão em julho. Esses acampamentos são o principal meio pelo qual são formados contatos e amizades de alto nível nos âmbitos comercial e político.[3]
