Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock é um jogo eletrônico musical desenvolvido pela Neversoft e distribuído pela Activision e RedOctane. Ele é o terceiro título concreto da série Guitar Hero, e o quarto título em geral. Guitar Hero III foi primeiramente lançado para PlayStation 3 e Xbox 360, com a versão para PlayStation 2 desenvolvida pela Budcat Creations e a versão da Wii pela Vicarious Visions.

Guitar Hero III - Legends Of Rock possui 73 músicas na mídia do jogo; isto inclue 39 músicas do modo single-player, três músicas da "Boss Battles", seis músicas exclusivas do modo Co-op e 25 músicas bônus. As versões para Xbox 360 e PlayStation 3 disponibilizam ao jogador novas músicas que podem ser baixadas para o jogo. Em 12 de setembro de 2008, existiam 59 músicas disponíveis para download para ambas as plataformas, elevando o número de músicas selecionáveis para tais versões a 132. Quatro músicas que podem ser baixadas estiveram disponíveis por um tempo limitado. As versões para Xbox 360 e PlayStation 3 possuem uma música exclusiva para cada.

- Não é necessario vencer os Guitar-Battles para prosseguir no jogo. Existe um modo de passar por elas sem vencer, exceto contra Lou.
- A versão da música "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" é uma regravação em forma de heavy metal de uma música country do grupo "The Charlie Daniels band'
- Nos consoles Xbox 360 e PlayStation 3, existe a opção de fazer o download de algumas músicas, contidas em "Packs" (pacotes de músicas)ou vendidas separadamente, lançados pelos produtores do jogo.
- Vencendo as batalhas contra algum guitarrista, indo à loja do jogo, o jogador é capaz de comprá-lo para jogar com o mesmo.
- Na versão de PlayStation 2 e de Wii estão presentes os personagens Methaled e Elroy, enquanto que em outros consoles eles são substituídos por God Of Rock e Grim Reaper.
- Na versão de PlayStation 2 e de Wii existe um cheat que se chama "Large Gems", o qual em outros consoles é substituído pela possibilidade de trocar o cantor durante as músicas.
