Judith Butler (24 de fevereiro de 1956, Cleveland, Ohio) é uma filósofa pós-estruturalista estadunidense, que contribuiu para os campos do feminismo, Teoria Queer, filosofia política e ética. Ela é professora da cátedra Maxine Elliot no Departamento de Retórica e Literatura Comparada da University of California em Berkeley.1
Butler obteve seu Ph.D. em filosofia da Yale University em 1984, e sua dissertação foi subsequentemente publicada como Subjects of Desire: Hegelian Reflections in Twentieth-Century France. Em fins da década de 1980, entre diversas designações de ensino e pesquisa (tais como no Centro de Humanidades na Johns Hopkins University), ela envolveu-se nos esforços "pós-estruturalistas" da teoria feminista ocidental em questionar os "termos pressuposicionais" do feminismo. Seus trabalhos mais recentes focam a filosofia judaica, centrando-se em particular nas "críticas pré-sionistas da violência estatal."2 3
