Katharine Hepburn ganhou quatro Oscars (todos de melhor atriz), mais do que qualquer outro ator ou atriz na história do prêmio.

Até 2021, a Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas premiou 44 atores e atrizes com dois ou mais Oscars nas categorias de atuação. Katharine Hepburn detém quatro prêmios de Melhor Atriz.[1] Seis pessoas ganharam três Oscar: Daniel Day-Lewis[2] (três prêmios de Melhor Ator), Frances McDormand (três prêmios de Melhor Atriz), Meryl Streep[3] (dois prêmios de Melhor Atriz e um de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante), Jack Nicholson[4] (dois prêmios de Melhor Ator e um prêmio de Melhor Ator Coadjuvante), Ingrid Bergman[5] (dois prêmios de Melhor Atriz e um prêmio de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante), e Walter Brennan (três prêmios de Melhor Ator Coadjuvante). Brennan foi o primeiro a receber três ou mais prêmios da Academia em 1940, seguido por Hepburn em 1968, Bergman em 1974, Nicholson em 1997, Streep em 2011, Day-Lewis em 2012 e, mais recentemente, Frances McDormand em 2021. Dos sete, apenas Nicholson, Streep, Day-Lewis e McDormand ainda estão vivos.

A única restrição é que os atores não podem receber várias indicações pelo mesmo desempenho. Esta regra foi implementada depois que Barry Fitzgerald recebeu uma indicação de Melhor Ator e Melhor Ator Coadjuvante por sua atuação em O Bom Pastor (1944).
