Predefinição:Infobox Cidade Pequim (em chinês 北京; em pinyin Běijīng e Wade-Giles Peiching) é capital da República Popular da China e sua segunda cidade mais populosa.

Pequim, cujo nome em mandarim significa capital do norte, durante séculos, foi a maior cidade do mundo; hoje tem cerca de 10,3 milhões de habitantes. Situada ao norte do país, Pequim é famosa pela Cidade Proibida, o palácio dos imperadores chineses desde o século XV. Foi capital do Império Chinês de 1421 a 1911.

Em 1912 a capital foi transferida para Nanjing e a cidade tomou o nome de Beiping (Wade-Giles: Peiping) (Paz do Norte); foi ocupada pelos japoneses entre 1937 e 1945. Tornou-se a capital da República Popular da China em 1949 com a nomenclatura atual.

História

Durante as dinastias Tang e Song, existiam somente pequenas aldeias na zona. A última dinastia Jin cedeu grande parte da sua fronteira norte, incluindo Pequim, à dinastia Liao no século X. A dinastia Liao fundou uma segunda capital numa cidade a que chamou Nanjing ("capital do Sul"). A dinastia Jin conquistou Liao e o norte da China, fundando Zhongdu (中都), a "capital central".

Os mongóis, com Genghis Khan, arrasaram Zhongdu em 1215 e reconstruiram-na como Grande Capital (大都), a norte da capital Jin, este é considerado o início da atual Pequim . O explorador Marco Polo chama à zona Cambaluc.Kublai Khan, que queria ser imperador da China, que definiu a sua capital na zona norte por estar mais próxima as suas origens na Mongólia, o que realçou a importância da cidade apesar dela estar na fronteira norte da China.

Em 1403, o terceiro imperador Ming, Zhu Di (朱棣), que subiu ao trono depois de matar o seu sobrinho e de uma longa guerra civil, moveu a capital, que estava no sul, estabelecendo-a no norte e chamando-a "Beijing", ou seja, capital do Norte. A Cidade Proibida foi construída entre 1406 e 1420, em seguida oTemplo do Céu (1420), e vários outros projetos. A Praça da Paz Celestial (Tian'anmen),pegou fogo duas vezes durante a dinastia Ming e finalmente reconstruida em 1651.

Após a instauração da República da China em 1911, estabeleceu-se de novo a capital em Nanjing (Nanquim) e "Beijing" foi renomeada "Beiping". Durante a Segunda Guerra Sino-Japonesa, foi ocupada pelo Japão em 29 de Julho de 1937. Durante a ocupação, Pequim foi a capital do Governo Provisório da China, um estado fantoche que governou o norte da então China ocupada. A ocupação durou até à rendição do Japão, em 15 de Agosto de 1945.

Em 31 de Janeiro de 1949, durante a Guerra Civil Chinesa, as forças comunistas entraram em Pequim sem confrontos violentos. No dia 1 de Outubro, o Partido Comunista Chinês chefiado por Mao Tse Tung, anunciou na Praça da Paz Celestial a criação da República Popular da China.

Depois das reformas económicas de Deng Xiaoping, a área urbana cresceu enormemente. A zona de Guomao tornou uma grande área comercial, tal como Wangfujing e Xidan, enquanto que Zhongguancun se converteu no centro da indústria da eletrônica do país.

Como capital da nação, Pequim também sofreu agitação política nos últimos vinte anos. Na Praça da Paz Celestial tiveram lugar os Protestos da Praça da Paz Celestial em Maio e Junho de 1989, que terminaram num massacre por parte do exército, sob ordem direta dos dirigentes comunistas: milhares de estudantes foram massacrados, o que ainda é objeto de polêmicas e é contestada nacionalmente porque tratava da liberdade política na mais populosa nação da Terra. A praça também foi lugar de apelos de praticantes da Falun Gong (uma prática de Qigong) para que eles não fossem mais persiguidos.

Nos anos recentes, Pequim esteve sempre com problemas sérios, tais como os congestionamentos (apesar da maioria da população usa a bicicleta como meio de transporte), a contaminação do ar, a destruição do património histórico e a grande migração de outras partes do país.

Pequim, perdeu a eleição para a sede dos Jogos Olímpicos de 2000,mas 8 anos depois foi escolhida como sede dos Jogos Olímpicos de 2008.^[1]

Geografia

Clima

O clima de Pequim é continental. O tempo é praticamente seco em quase todo o ano, mas no verão as monções causam muita chuva. Os invernos são muito frios, registrando temperaturas máximas abaixo de 0°C nos dias mais frios, mas neva pouco devido à seca, causada pela alta pressão do ar vinda da Sibéria. Os verões são quentes, as temperaturas ficam acima dos 30°C em vários dias da estação. O outono e a primavera são estações de transição entre o frio e o calor e, assim como o inverno, são estações secas.

Região Metropolitana

Pequim detém de uma das maiores densidades populacionais do planeta, abrigando cerca de 10,3 milhões de habitantes dentro de seus limites. Sua região metropolitana é a 12ª mais populosa da Terra, contando com 17.234.087 habitantes.

Economia

A sua localização tornou-a num importante nó ferroviário, Possuindo ligações a Kalgan, a Mongólia,aTientsin,aManchúria e com o Sul da China. Basicamente é uma cidade industrial, mas principalmente uma cidade histórica e cultural. As indústrias predominantes são do algodão,das fibras sintéticas,delubrificantes,aeletrônicas, da construção civil e da indústria alimentar.

Apesar da planície que envolve esta capital ser extremamente fértil, a produção de alimentos é insuficiente por causa damanda.Com isso, a cidade tem a extrema necessidade de abastecer nas províncias do Sul. No entanto, a sua produção agrícola inclui porcos e hortaliças. O comércio se desenvolveu nas últimas décadas, sobretudo ligado à produção de artesanato tradicional (objetos esmaltados, de jade, tapetes e lacados), bem como o setor dos serviços.

Educação

Pequim abriga um grande número de faculdades e universidades, incluindo várias bem creditadas em nível internacional, tais como a Universidade de Tsinghua e a Universidade de Pequim.^[2] Por causa do status de Pequim como a capital política e cultural da China, uma grande proporção das instituições de terceiro grau estão concentradas mais lá do que em qualquer outra cidade da China, alcançando, no mínimo, 59 unidades. Muitos estudantes estrangeiros, do Japão, Coréia do Sul, América do Norte, Europa e do Sudeste da Ásia e de outros lugares, chegam a Pequim para estudar todos os anos.

Política

O sistema político de Pequim é estruturado num sistema de governo duplo como todas as outras instituições governamentais da República Popular da China. O prefeito de Pequim é a autoridade máxima no governo da cidade.Como a cidade é uma municipalidade administrada pelo governo federal,o prefeito possui o mesmo nível na ordem de precedência dos governadores das províncias.Entretanto,no sistema duplo de governo de Pequim,o prefeito está abaixo do que o Secretário do Comitê Municipal de Pequim do Partido Comunista.
