Na cultura americana, apesar de sua constituição e ideologia republicana, honoríficos têm sido usados para descrever figuras líderes em várias áreas de atividade, como indústria, comércio, esporte e mídia; "pai" ou "mãe" foram usados para inovadores, e títulos reais como "rei" e "rainha" para figuras dominantes em um campo.
